VISION
Barangay Lahug, Cebu City envisions a peaceful, progressive and livable community where people are healthy, happy and empowered, working together for the common good towards sustainable development, living in a gender sensitive, child friendly and clean environment where leaders are responsive to the people’s needs in a participatory and transparent form of governance.
MISSION
Barangay Lahug, Cebu City shall establish unity and cooperation among its constituents in the attainment of peace, harmony and sustainable development wherein the delivery of basic goods and services and infrastructure facilities are improved in partnership and networking with the different Government Agencies, CSO’s, PO’s and other Stakeholders.
Barangay Lahug is one of the most vibrant and fast-growing communities in the North District of Cebu City. Covering about 443 hectares, it’s a lively mix of residential neighborhoods, business centers, schools, and commercial spaces. Over time, Lahug has become one of the city’s most sought-after areas for living, working, and investing, attracting both locals and newcomers who want to be part of its exciting growth.
Long before it became a modern urban hub, Lahug was known as the site of Cebu City’s old airport, which once served as the main gateway to the province. When the airport later moved to Mactan, the area didn’t fade into history—it transformed. What used to be a runway has now become a thriving center filled with offices, condominiums, and restaurants, a clear reflection of Lahug’s progress and ability to adapt to change.
Thanks to its strategic location and vibrant local economy, Lahug has developed into one of Cebu City’s key business and lifestyle districts. It’s home to Cebu IT Park, a major landmark where multinational companies and BPO firms operate, creating thousands of jobs and fueling the local economy. Around it, you’ll find modern condominiums, hotels, and cafes—proof that Lahug continues to evolve into a modern city within a city.
Even with all the growth, Lahug’s leaders remain focused on balancing development and community welfare. The barangay aims to ensure that progress benefits everyone—from residents and small business owners to students and professionals. With strong leadership and active citizen participation, Lahug continues to build a future that’s inclusive and sustainable.
Proud of its progress and confident in its vision, Barangay Lahug sees itself as the “Makati of the South”—a place where business, culture, and community thrive together. As it continues to grow, Lahug remains a shining example of what happens when innovation, unity, and good governance come together in the heart of Cebu City.
ORIGIN
Long before Spanish time, when Lahug was yet a forestland, insurrectors used to seek refuge in the heavily foliated trees. Spaniards could not penetrate the nearly inaccessible paths of the jungle but the natives could easily weave in and out of the way (Lahug-Lahug in Cebuano) this forest came to be known as Lahug-Lahug but with the peoples known for using shorter terms it became known as LAHUG.
